Marceline’s Confectionery at Halloween Time

In case you didn’t know, you can find most of the handcrafted goodies from Disneyland and Disney California Adventure at Marceline’s Confectionery in Downtown Disney® District, without the cost of a park ticket. I like being able to stop in there and take the treats to go before heading home and avoid having them smashed in my backpack from hopping ride to ride.

When you step inside Marceline’s Confectionery you feel like you have stepped inside an old-fashioned candy shop, which was named after the small Missouri town where Walt lived as a boy.

Mom’s Pies in Julian

Every year we make at least one trip to Julian in the Fall to experience the leaves changing, cold crisp air, and grab some warm apple pie. There is an abundance of pie to be found in Julian, but one of my favorite spots is Mom’s Pies.  Mom’s Pies have been around since 1984. All of their pies and baked goods are made fresh daily.

Outside of Mom’s you are wafted with the scent of apples baking. On the weekends, I have always found the line out the door. While you wait, you can catch some pies being made from the front window. The line moves pretty swiftly so don’t get too comfortable. Continue reading

The LOOP: Handcrafted Churros

We made a recent stop on the way home from Disneyland to The Loop: Handcrafted Churros,  named after the shape of the handcrafted churros they offer, which is located in Orange County’s Little Saigon community. In a fun little twist on the classic Mexican treat, the Loop offers churros dipped, glazed, or chilled, meaning they come with an ice cream sundae.

They are so insta-famous to me that I refused to head back to San Diego without getting my hands on some churros. We arrived expecting a crazy line considering it was a Saturday afternoon, but we got lucky and only had a couple people ahead of us. Although, after we ordered it was another story. Continue reading

Julian Pie Company

Yay, it’s the first day of Fall! Bring on all of the apples and pumpkins! I must say Fall is my favorite season. The problem is living in San Diego, we don’t really get Fall weather or season changes, but luckily Julian does. Julian is a mountain getaway, an hour northeast of San Diego, located in the Cuyamaca mountains.

San Diego also doesn’t really offer cider donuts like I was always seeing all over my Instagram feed in the Fall, so one year I did an internet search to track down cider donuts in town and found Julian Pie Company offers them. It makes sense that Julian would be the place to find cider donuts since every September they have a two-day Julian Apple Days Festival, not to mention Julian is famous for apple pies.

I got my husband on board for taking a day trip to Julian by fitting in some off-roading in his prized Jeep in the Laguna Mountains after. We set off in the morning on a Saturday and decided to drive through Ramona and stop at the Santa Ysabel location because I knew they had a bigger selection of donuts, in my experience than the Julian location. Weekend in LA – Part 3

On the second day of our weekend in LA we woke up bright and early to head for Grand Central Market in downtown LA, a downtown landmark since 1917.  There were quite a few spots I was very interested in stopping at and thankfully Grand Central Market definitely has a wide range of cuisines and cultures, which excited me.  First on my stops was G&B Coffee, since it was close to triple digits that weekend, the only thing on my mind was a cold brew coffee.  The people serving up the coffee were not pretentious at all, which I always appreciate from a coffee shop.  They had a steady flow of regulars, another good sign.  My cold brew was really rich and bold and was perfection with a splash of half & half as well as their big block ice cubes.

But first, coffee!
