Holidays Eats at Trolley Treats

Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure Park is a sweet shop (pun intended) on Buena Vista Street. Trolley Treats carries all kinds of freshly made treats from cake pops, caramel apples, toffee, fudge, cookies, to seasonal favorites. Most of the treats at Trolley Treats can be found at Candy Palace and Pooh Corner at Disneyland, and Marceline’s Confectionery in Downtown Disney District. I can’t stop myself from popping in every visit to the park.

On our recent Disney date, before heading to the Festival of Holidays, which you can see HERE, I stopped by Trolley Treats to check out the holiday sweets. Before heading inside, there was a cast member outside of the shop displaying some of the holiday treats. Continue reading

Asado Grill

I received in invite to check out Hotel Karlan, a DoubleTree by Hilton located in North San Diego, which recently went through a re-imaging. The invite was specifically to check out their flagship restaurant, Asado Grill and enjoy a family-friendly movie on the lawn after dinner. This sounded like the perfect night for my family!

Asado Grill offers sustainable seafood, gourmet culinary creations, cocktails, local craft beers, and wine. They had a spacious indoor dining area located off of the hotel lobby and an outdoor seating area. We opted to sit outside and enjoy the nice late-Summer night.

Julian Pie Company

Yay, it’s the first day of Fall! Bring on all of the apples and pumpkins! I must say Fall is my favorite season. The problem is living in San Diego, we don’t really get Fall weather or season changes, but luckily Julian does. Julian is a mountain getaway, an hour northeast of San Diego, located in the Cuyamaca mountains.

San Diego also doesn’t really offer cider donuts like I was always seeing all over my Instagram feed in the Fall, so one year I did an internet search to track down cider donuts in town and found Julian Pie Company offers them. It makes sense that Julian would be the place to find cider donuts since every September they have a two-day Julian Apple Days Festival, not to mention Julian is famous for apple pies.

I got my husband on board for taking a day trip to Julian by fitting in some off-roading in his prized Jeep in the Laguna Mountains after. We set off in the morning on a Saturday and decided to drive through Ramona and stop at the Santa Ysabel location because I knew they had a bigger selection of donuts, in my experience than the Julian location. City Tacos

City Tacos is a Taquería located in San Diego’s North Park neighborhood. I would describe City Tacos as true Mexican flavors and traditions with a touch of Southern California influences.

City Tacos offers an array of different tacos, such as chorizo, chili relleno, seafood, pollo & carne asada and much more.  They also have vegan options. This taco loving girl was completely content with their taco filled menu. However, my teenage son (for reasons I do not understand) does not like corn tortillas and was less than thrilled when we first arrived about the prospect of tacos for lunch until we saw City Tacos has flour tortillas in addition to corn tortillas so he was in. Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival

I had the chance to check out Disney California Adventure Food & Wine Festival that ran from April 1st – May 1st. It is a culinary tour of California with 8 different marketplaces to sample from and “Taste Your Way Across the Golden State.”

Upon arriving to the festival, I learned that there was a tasting passport annual passholders could purchase so I took advantage of that deal. For $39 you received a lanyard  with the tasting passport that had 6 tasting coupons attached to be used at any marketplace of your choosing, plus a button to commemorate the Food & Wine Festival, a couple of recipe cards from the various marketplaces, and access to the Blue Sky Cellar if you wanted to take a break and cool off indoors.
