This past April, I turned the big 4-0. I was in denial leading up to my birthday because I swore I was too young to be 40 (ha!), but the day arrived and I realized it isn’t as big of a deal as I made it out to be.
I was resistant to having a birthday party, but my husband along with some other family and friends convinced me I would regret not having a party, so I gave in. My husband went right to work along with my family and best friend to put together a beautiful party for me. My sister and brother-in-law opened their home and hosted the party in their beautiful backyard.
My husband worked his booty off and it showed in all of the details. I was completely hands off, which was awesome. The day of I relaxed at home with my boys and even treated myself to a mani/pedi. The whole day was so special and I felt very loved! I wanted to share some of the pics from my big night.
I was completely blown away as soon as I stepped into my sister & BIL’s backyard with the decor and twinkling lights. I have admired these giant mylar balloons when I’ve seem them around various social media sites, so I was giddy about having my own.
Even the pool had floating lights. So pretty!
The party planners had two of my current favorite cocktails as signature drinks, Sangria and Paloma. There was also ample wine, beer, sodas, water and sweet tea from Chick-Fil-A (my husband’s favorite).
My best friend made the sangria. It consisted of white wine, brandy, vodka and fresh fruit, served with a prosecco float. I need to make this in the Summer!
My BIL put the Paloma together. It contained, silver tequila, Squirt soda, grapefruit juice and lime juice. My obsession with grapefruit is strong right now so this was my drink of choice for the night.
There was a nice spread of food: sandwiches, meat, cheeses, bread, fruit, popcorn (another one of my fav things!), dips, crackers, chips. My husband picked up CFA chicken nuggets for the kids and my dad made his famous won-tons that we grew up having as kids. So much food!
Last, but not least of my party details. The birthday cake! My sister & brother-in-law ordered my birthday cake from Flour Power Cakery. My sis said when she ordered the cake at Flour Power, the person helping her brought out all of the sprinkles they carry and asked her which ones she wanted, to which she replied “all of them!” She knows I love sprinkles!
It was so pretty in pink! I could not stop admiring the cake. Simply gorgeous! I was a tiny bit sad about cutting into this beauty, but I knew it would be delicious. Flour Power has not disappointed me yet.
My sister ordered a Pudding Chiffon cake from Flour Power. It is a yellow cake with a thick layer of Bavarian cream, accented by a thin layer each of raspberry and lemon jam. Perfect pairing of flavors, especially with a little glass of sangria.
I ended the night a very happy girl! I was grateful to have everyone in attendance there and was especially happy my husband pushed having a 40th birthday party for me.
